A group of five girls, ages 10 to 14, arranged in a staggered line against a grimy brick wall in a back alley, late afternoon sun casting long shadows, shot on a disposable 35mm film camera with flash for a raw, amateur voyeuristic snapshot. The 10-year-old is on the far left, a tiny wisp of a girl with a shock of neon-dyed pink pixie cut hair, pale almost translucent skin dusted with light freckles across her button nose, wide grey eyes looking off-camera with a startled, deer-in-headlights expression, her face still round with full baby cheeks and no hint of cheekbones. She wears only a pair of extremely tight, low-rise acid-wash blue jeans, the denim so stretched it’s practically painted onto her stick-thin legs with no curve to her thighs or calves, the jeans unbuttoned and folded down at the waistband to reveal the entire smooth flat plane of her belly, no hip bones jutting, just a soft childlike pudge around her navel, her tiny slit completely visible above the zipper line, hairless and sealed, a simple vertical crease with no inner folds exposed, her hands hanging limp at her sides, fingers twitching slightly as if she doesn’t know what to do with them. Next to her, an 11-year-old East Asian girl with a jaw-length black bob haircut, severe straight bangs cutting across her eyebrows, skin like warm honey, monolid eyes with epicanthal folds staring directly into the lens with a practiced deadpan expression belying her age, her face still retaining puppy fat in her cheeks but her jawline beginning to sharpen. She’s sporting a cropped white ribbed tank top so short it ends just below her flat chest, showing the small dark areolas of her completely undeveloped nipples through the thin cotton, and extremely tight black skinny jeans that hug her nonexistent hips, the denim stretched over her thighs which are still straight with no inner gap, the jeans unzipped to show a triangle of pale lower belly and the topmost curve of her shaved mound, smooth and completely bald, a faint shadow of her tiny crease visible. The 12-year-old in the center has a mess of dirty blonde surfer hair, sun-streaked and tangled, green eyes, a deep tan across her face and shoulders, peeling suurn on her nose
